Got Skin Frustrations? When All Else Fails Try This...

I hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend. Tons of yard work for me and hopefully the weather here is going to cooperate.

Normally I do not post on busy weekends, but I read a question on my blog today that I want to address because it is what I call the dead end of skin care. I wanted to make sure I got an answer out as quickly as possible.

A grandmother wrote me out of frustration because she really cares for her granddaughter and wants to help her. Her questions and my response hopefully helps you who maybe be feeling the same way.

I have a 15 year old granddaughter who has been battling acne for the last 4-5 years. Nothing seems to help. Dermatologists and Doctors. We have used prescription drugs, Doxacycline, and now birth control.

Nothing works. All of your posts seems to be for people over 20. Any suggestions for teens. Would Ginalé help?

Worried Grandmother

Thank you for your question. I want to first point out that all of my posts are for anyone of any age, race, or color. The information contained in my posts can help every person who reads them to lead a healthier lifestyle that will result in better looking skin.

However, I can completely understand your frustration. This is exactly how it was for me when I was a teenager and I know my parents felt the same way!

It took me 15 years, a ton of doctor visits, and a lot of money before I figured out that Acne (as well as many other skin conditions) is caused by multiple contributing factors.

Firstly, there is the diet. Sugars, gluten, and dairy have all been scientifically linked to difficult acne cases, especially in women and teen girls.

A diet high in these (especially when considering there has been antibiotic use) can lead to a yeast over growth called Candida Albicans in the digestive tract that can contribute greatly to acne, just as it did for me.

A 6-week minimum with these completely out of the diet should make a tremendous difference in the skin. Adding a daily probiotic like Sustinex or other name brand can help reverse Candida overgrowth.

Pick the right products to use on your skin. Today this is can be more complicated because we have so many products that over-dry the skin and use chemicals to try and clear acne up.

They don't work long-term, whether they are the over-the-counter brands, (Murad, Proactiv, Zenmed, etc.) or the prescription version of benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid. All of these came out in the early 1980's and still don't provide long lasting results no matter what new name they are sold under.

Switching to naturally-based products that use olive oil and glycerin work very well short-term and long-term. Tea tree oil (I call it liquid paper for the skin) is much better for killing bacteria on the surface of the skin than any antibiotic ever was.

Lastly, there is the need for deep exfoliation to remove dead skin cells that block pores and encourage breakouts. I recommend the use of either: 1) A naturally-based glycolic (fruit acid) product plus the daily use of a facial exfoliating sponge like the Buf-Puf sponge made by 3m Corporation (this is what I used to do), or 2) A naturally-based skin peel like the Ginale Skin Peel (this is what I use now).

Please understand that by changing the diet and taking good external care for her skin, it will put a stop to her breakouts. It may not happen overnight, but it will happen. I help thousands of clients a year do this the natural way.

Hi, Chris. I'm using Ginalé Skin Care Kit SD (All Skin Types) but I have the Buf-Puf at the same time. Can I continue using the Buf-Puf since I'm using the fruit exfoliator? Will it be better to combine these two to reduce my acne scar?

Hi Jack! Yes you should use it but just not on the same day you are using the fruit exfoliation gel. Using it the day after will enhance the results and remove more skin cells. For deeper scars you may need to consider a peel. ~chris~
