MaxClarity For Acne... Innovation or Imitation?

Today I want to share what I know about another product for acne that I routinely get questions about, MaxClarity. Right now at any given time you will see a commercial for this product that in their own words is the "first and only acne-fighting foam system".

MaxClarity calls itself an innovative product, but is it really? Let's take a closer look.

The Premise (Promise) Of MaxClarity

The idea behind this product is to provide acne fighting medication in a foamer bottle. The claim is that by putting the ingredients in a 'foam", they named is Versafoam, they are better able to be absorbed and work better, faster and deeper.

This is supposedly because they "micronized" the chemicals to be able to penetrate the pores of the skin to kill bacteria better. Sounds phenomenal doesn't it. :-)

Of course, they use the same approach as the rest of these type of product lines with testimonials from clients and special offer enrollment programs. So does it really work better than all of it's cousins out there like ProActiv?

And, what is in it that makes it so special and different? Unfortunately, absolutely nothing.

Let's take a look at the active ingredient list taken directly from the MaxClarity website:

About MaxClarity™ Foam

Q. What are the ingredients in MaxClarity Foam System?

A. MaxClarity Foam System uses the highest quality Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid, two key acne-fighting ingredients. We micronized the particles so they absorb quickly and effectively into your skin. The complete MaxClarity Foam System includes:

- MaxClarity Foam Deep Cleanser with 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide
- MaxClarity Foam Advanced Acne Treatment with 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide
- MaxClarity Foam Rejuvenating Toner with 0.5% Salicylic Acid

WOW... so its just plain old Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid! The same stuff that is in everything else and been around in use since 1980! That is what I call innovative alright.

What this means is that if products containing these ingredients haven't worked for you before, just because they are now in a foam doesn't mean they will now.

What My Clients Who Have Used MaxClarity Report

Not surprisingly, since the ingredients are the same as the other products like this, the feedback has been the same. There has been one positive difference that sets them apart in that this system does not appear to dry out and irritate the skin as much as ProActiv and other products do.

This is likely due to the more buffered formula and exact application process. Nevertheless, it is the same old stuff.

My Recommendation

Since Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid formulated products are widely available at the local drug and grocery stores, why get roped into an auto-ship program, pay for shipping and handling, and have to wait on your package to arrive?

If you are determined to use these chemicals then you can choose from over 30 different brands and take them home with you the same day.

My recommendation for my acne clients is always to "go natural" and give their skin a break. I always say to change to non-soap products for cleansing that are glycerin or olive oil based.

I talk about ways to exfoliate without using chemicals, and creating a healthier environment inside your body and out so that your skin not only looks good, but thrives.

Healthy skin is always beautiful skin!

Yes, just know that the more natural you can go, the better off you and your skin are.
