Caring For Acne Prone Skin in Summer Heat...

Well, I think it is safe to say that warm weather is here to stay, even for us here up North. This means being aware of some important changes you need to make in your skin care routine.

Acne is caused by blocked pores that the natural bacteria on the skin gets trapped in and grows. In warmer weather we perspire more and pores tend to get blocked easier.

Here are some tips for summer skin care for any skin type. These are effective whether you are having breakouts or not!

1. Do NOT Over Cleanse Your Skin.

Many of my clients will start over doing their skin cleansing. This can over-dry skin leaving a layer of dried out skin cells that can trap more oil and lead to breakouts.

Cleansing twice daily, morning and before retiring at night is plenty. Glycerin or olive oil based cleansers are best.

2. Don't Strip Your Skin Of Oil, Control It.

As I've talked about in previous posts, oil is actually very good for your skin and will keep you looking younger longer. So don't strip your skin of this great asset, use products to help you control it.

Be sure any moisturizer you use is "oil free", as you do not want any mineral oil or petroleum on your skin. It will trap oil and block your pores. Make sure to check your labels thoroughly and stick with naturally-based products if you can.

3. Be Sure To Exfoliate A Minimum Of Every 3 Days.

Whether you are using the Ginale Skin Peel, a Buf-Puf sponge, or another method, this process is essential. Do not scrub the skin, just lightly buff for a minute and you will have smoother blemish free skin all summer.

4. Be Careful With The Sunscreen!

You do not need any sunscreen above 30 spf. The chemicals are very irritating and you have to reapply a 50 spf just as often, and many get a false sense of security from the high number. Also, make sure it protects for both UVA and UVB rays.

Try to find a naturally-based sunscreen like Ginale's Sun Protection. Just be sure you protect yourself from burning, so you can avoid skin cancer and photo-aging while you enjoy the outdoors.

5. Always Shower With Mildly Warm to Cool Water.

This allows cleansing without stripping the skins own protective oils. Make sure to moisturize within 5-10 minutes of jumping out of the shower to maintain moisture as well.

6. Drink Plenty of Water!

This goes for whether you have been out in the garden, playing a sport, or just moving through a hot summer afternoon. About 6 to 8 12 oz servings are needed by the average person who is not over-exerting themselves.

Your urine should never be dark or burn. This can be a sign of dehydration. I keep a glass of water with lemon on hand all the time.

I hope these tips help you to enjoy the summer months ahead by staying healthy. Its time to get outdoors and have some fun!

Hi Chris

Thank you for your informative posts. I have bought two of your e-books and we have used your peel with great success.

Can you please shed some more information on Vitamin C? Is it best to get the buffered powder and drink it in a glass a water? I see you mentioned drinking lemon in water. Would you recommend it? How much water and how much lemon? Can it replace the Vitamin C?
