TCA Peel: Is The PAIN Worth The GAIN In Skin Repair?

Remember the adage "No Pain, No Gain"? Well maybe in the old days of skin repair and rejuvenation that carried some truth but not today.

With the new science and technologies with natural ingredients there are much safer and even more effective ways to accomplish a new skin.

Yesterday I covered one of the more natural approaches by discussing glycolic peels. Today, we are going to look at a strong chemical peeling agent.

The TCA Peel (Trichloric Acid)

This is a true acid peel usually performed by a dermatologist or certified salon esthetician. This treatment does burn the outer layers of skin and carries with it moderate discomfort and risk of infection.

It all but removes the outer layers of skin and there is a healing time of about one and a half to two weeks. I tried one of these peels myself and it was painful for me.

I also did NOT like the patchy areas on my face as they were very noticeable and took a long time to peel off. You have to slather the skin with Neosporin or other antibacterial salve until your skin completely peels, which makes you look like a greasy, flaky mess.

Personally, this peel was not for me!

It has varying strengths and time frames to be used on the skin and should only be performed by a certified professional. These peels can give good results if you can stomach the downtime but are painful and can be costly.

One of the major drawbacks to this peel is if you get too much sunlight (and it differs by individual) you can get darkened skin, which can reverse any benefit you may receive.

Total cost of a full-face TCA chemical peel treatment routine at the time of this writing can average up to $2,000.00. If you wish to have only a portion of your face peeled, such as the area around your mouth or the area around your eyes, you will pay about $1,200.00 for the professional service and follow up visits.

The TCA Peel is an option, but there are other alternatives to consider and I will cover those in the following articles this week.
