Oil That Is Good For Your Skin?

For today's topic I want to discuss a pretty confusing set of nutrients we all hear a lot about... the Omega Fatty Acids.

I for one do take daily fish oil supplementation as it is very good for the health in general, but even more so for your skin. I can literally see and feel the difference in my own skin in just a matter of days if I for some reason forget them when I am traveling for example.

Let's look at why this would be and get a good understanding on how this set of nutrients works. Essential Fatty Acids, or EFAs as they are more widely known as an important part of any healthy diet.

They help to build up the lipid-based cell membranes that hold in water and nutrients in the cellular structure of the skin and those lipids also form an oil barrier that protects the skin from UV damage and pollutants. By their nature the easiest way to get them is in the oils you actually eat.

Without EFA's, skin-cell membranes that are the overall protective barrier can't work effectively and the skin ends up being over-exposed, dehydrated, and prone to produce a more harmful type of thickened sebum, leaving it dry, inflamed and blemished. This is why I always tell my acne clients..."oil is not your problem".

To make sure you get these EFA's and keep your skin looking great you need to make sure they include primarily the omega-3 and the omega-6 fatty acids.

Omega-6 is found in many common foods, including poultry, grains and cooking oils (I recommend olive and peanut), so you're probably getting plenty of that.

Omega-3s take a little more work but can be found in cold-water fish like salmon and sardines, along with flaxseed and safflower oils, kidney beans, walnuts, and spinach. I take fish oil supplements to get these daily.

I also recommend another EFA, gamma linolenic acid (GLA), for its anti-inflammatory effects. GLA is found mostly in plant oils and can be taken in supplement form. You'll find those in most grocery stores and definitely any natural-foods store.

EFA's can improve your complexion from the inside out. They are easy to add to the diet and have excellent health benefits for your skin and entire body.

If you are not taking right now then I recommend you start as soon as you can. I always like to give you more access to information that you can use today, so visit the next link below to get step-by-step information on how to get your skin healthy, clear, and youthful looking in as few as 7 days.
