What Stress Does To Your Skin...

We hear it all the time. Stress weakens our immune system, speeds up aging and disease, and generally makes life less than ideal. This is certainly the case when dealing with any skin issue.

Almost all skin problems are connected to the function of the human immune system. That is why so many pharmaceutical products for things like acne, rosacea, eczema, and skin allergies target suppressing the immune system so as to lower the intensity of these diseases.

Countless studies show how stress affects the immune system over time, weakening its ability to protect and heal. In fact, the correlation of stress and skin issues is so clear that The American Academy of Dermatology has a great report on the subject and its impact on self-esteem.

It is a very vicious cycle... you break out, you stress out over it, and the condition gets even worse! Feel free to read the report here.

I have worked with thousands of clients and stress ALWAYS plays a role in clearing up their skin. It is also usually one of the things I have to work hardest on with clients to get them out of the "emotional war" with their skin.

There are some tips you can use to break the cycle and in fact I'm working right now with one of the most widely respected experts in the world on health and fitness issues, Suzy Prudden. She and I together are working on a series of downloadable CD's to help acne sufferers break the stress cycle that contributes to the condition.

Suzy, who has been regularly featured many times on Oprah, has been on every national news and morning show imaginable. She has joined with me to help offer even more powerful tools for those who want to have clear skin and good health.

Here are some quick tips to help break the stress reaction that can keep skin issues occurring:

1. Put them (breakouts, flare-ups) into proper perspective... realize it's just an occurrence and has no real power in your life other than how you are feeling about it. Skin can be cleared up and you are in charge of your body, it is not in charge of you.

2. Think positively, you have the tools and resources necessary to cure and prevent future problems with your skin. You may be on the learning curve but you will achieve results.

3. Take a deep breath and relax. Make sure you are getting enough daily rest so your emotions and your immune system can work together while your sleeping and your body is in "repair" mode.

4. Take some kind of action each day that you have learned, which will help your skin and your overall health. Taking action gives back to you a sense of power.

5. Learn all you can about your condition so you are empowered to make good choices.

By following these simple tips, YOU are the one calling the shots and the feelings of stress will decrease greatly for you.

I always like to give everyone more access to information that you can use today so visit the next link below to get step by step information on how to keep your skin healthy, clear, and eternally youthful looking!
